The Original CupcakeCampColumbus

In May, Carmen Owens of Surly Girl Saloon and Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy of 52 Weeks of Baking hosted the first CupcakeCampColumbus. It was such a rousing success, that we immediately decided to do another. Mary Martineau at the North Market graciously offered the Dispatch Kitchen to us so that we could expand the event.

Here’s a look at how CupcakeCampColumbus went:

It was a magical couple of hours, full of slight chaos, pink frosting and sugar highs.

I’ll let the photos do the talking for this event.

Revenge of CupcakeCampColumbus!

You know it, you love it, it’s CupcakeCampColumbus!

Back in May, the very first CupcakeCampColumbus was held in the back parlor of Surly Girl Saloon. By all accounts, it was a raving success – everyone got full on cupcakes, and we raised some serious cash for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

This time around, we want to go bigger and better!

Revenge of CupcakeCampColumbus will be held Saturday, October 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Dispatch Kitchen at the North Market. We hope to up the ante and feature around 40 different kinds of cupcakes provided by local amateur bakers.

I promise that this website will get prettier, but for now, here’s what you need to know:

Bakers:

If you’d like to bake cupcakes for Revenge of CupcakeCampColumbus, you may bake one or two kinds of cupcakes. This time around, we ask that you bake cupcakes that fit in with one or two of the following themes:

Best Harvest Cupcake: These cupcakes should scream ‘Autumn’. Use fall fruits or vegetables. Decorate your cupcakes like shocks of hay. Use your imagination.

Best North Market-Inspired: The North Market features a little of everything. So should these cupcakes. Bake cupcakes that match up to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Or turn it up a little and bake a cupcake that would make CaJohn proud. There are so many options!

Best Ohio Pride: These cupcakes would make any Ohioan proud. Use all Ohio ingredients. Bake cupcakes in the shape of Ohio. Decorate with OSU colors. Go crazy!

Best Decorated: As simple as it sounds. Bust out your Wilton piping bag or consult your copy of “Hello Cupcake!”

Best Vegan: No animal products here! We want the tastiest cupcake you can create without using milk, eggs, butter or any other animal product.

Best Halloween: Get creative and dress those cupcakes up in their best costumes! Disguise a cupcake as something else, make fondant ghosts, create a haunted cupcake house!

Local celebrities and experts will be on hand to judge each category, and awesome prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Cupcakes will need to be delivered between noon and 12:30 p.m. the day of the event. Each baker will also receive two free tickets to the event; one for themselves and one for a guest.

Keep watching this website, as well as our Facebook page and be sure to follow @CupcakeCampCBUS on Twitter for more information. Soon, we will put up an entry form on this website so that bakers can enter their goodies. For now though, start thinking about what you’re going to enter. You’ve only got a month!

We will stop accepting bakers once we hit 40 cupcakes, so be sure to sign up quickly.

Eaters:

Tickets for this awesome event will go on sale Friday, September 11th at the North Market. Each ticket will be $10. There are a limited number of tickets available to this event, so make sure to get your tickets quickly! (Again, bakers, you do not need to worry about buying tickets for yourself and one guest, but if you have other friends, tell them to buy their tickets now!)

Stay tuned for more details, as well as a much prettier website!
